The current Horses in Training at Richard Bandey Racing, based at Plantation Farm, Hampshire, for the 2024-25 season.

7yo Dylan Thomas mare out of 2 time winning mare Arctic Flow. The dam is a half-sister to Midlands National winner Regal Flow, so stamina will very much be her forte. She is a mare who’s taken time to come to hand, but hopefully her connections’ patience will be rewarded.

5yo Black Sam Bellamy gelding from a family of many smart dual purpose performers, out of 121 rated and 3 times winning mare Tigresse Bleue. Blue Bellamy has had 5 point-to-point starts, with the pick of his form finishing 2nd behind the very well regarded Tumuch at Lingstown in December. The winner went on to make £335,000 at Cheltenham’s December sales and was talked about as a Gold Cup contender of the future. A scopey gelding, who has done well for his summer break. Ultimately, he will be a chaser, but has the option of taking in a bumper before going hurdling this season.

Brulure Noire Colours

7yo Califet gelding who’s embarking on his 3rd season with us. He’s now won 3 of his 9 starts for the yard, but in amongst those wins he has thrown in the occasional disappointing effort. He’s a big horse, who’s just reaching full maturity now. We changed tactics on his final start of the season at Chepstow and he won impressively; hopefully that will open up more avenues for him. There’s more to come this season.

Desert Halo Colours

5yo Arctic Cosmos gelding, who finished 4th on his only start for the yard in a bumper at Southwell in February. The ground got very testing that day and he shaped much better than the finishing result but got very tired in the ground. A classy type who showed plenty in his Irish bumper and two point-to-point runs. A nice novice hurdler, who will ultimately be a chaser.

Brulure Noire Colours

5yo Mahler gelding who was purchased after catching the eye when finishing 2nd in an Irish point-to-point in January. An honest individual with a quality physical, this gelding is from a quality staying family and will make a lovely chaser in time. We are still getting to know him and look forward to learning some more about him over hurdles this season.

5yo Mount Nelson mare who had two starts for the yard in bumpers last season. She finished 8th on debut but improved significantly to finish 4th, beaten just a length and 3/4, at Southwell in May. From the family of multiple Grade 1 winner Carlingford Lough, she should appreciate the switch to hurdles this season and a step up in trip in time. There’s more to come from her.

9yo Kayf Tara mare who’s been a star for the yard, winning 4 times in her career, but no doubt last season was her best to date. She took her form to a new level, really appreciating the switch back to fences. 3rd on seasonal reappearance before winning impressively at Fontwell in December. She went on to place on 3 more occasions, including going very close in the Mares Chase final at Cheltenham in April. Still relatively unexposed in staying mares’ chases, we will go down that route again this season.

6 time winner for the yard, who’s life has been made very difficult by the handicapper over the last couple of seasons. Monty is very much a victim of his own consistency but finally the handicapper has relented. He ran his best race for a long time when finishing a close 2nd at Uttoxeter at the end of July and should make his presence felt off a mark of 115 going forward. His 7th win for the yard isn’t far away.

6yo Califet gelding who’s embarking on his 3rd season at Plantation Farm. He’s been an extremely consistent horse for connections and finally got his head in front at Exeter in April. The season didn’t start too well for him when falling on his first start over fences at Warwick in November. He was running a big race and looked booked for second before coming down at the second last. Fortunately, he was none the worse for the mishap and switched back to hurdles, running extremely consistently all season. A huge horse who’s still only a 6yo, he could go back over fences, but also has the option of handicap hurdles. There’s still more improvement to come from this lad.

6yo gelding by Free Port Lux, who’s placed in 4 of his 7 starts for us without getting his head in front. He was bought to be a 4yo chaser but took time to acclimatise and now looks attractively treated off a mark of 102. He is also still a novice over hurdles and that’s something we can exploit in the coming season. Still a young horse from a quality French staying family, there’s more to come from him this season.

6yo Vision d’Etat gelding who was a hurdle winner for Emmanuel Clayeux before joining the yard for the 23/24 campaign. Sadly, he missed all of last season through injury. An inexperienced horse, with plenty of improvement in him. He could start hurdling or go straight over fences.

5yo Spanish Moon mare who’s embarking on her 3rd season with the yard. She was a winner at Fakenham in October 2022 but has struggled to find her form since. A big, scopey mare who hasn’t stopped growing. She now looks nicely treated on a mark of 81 and she’s always worked much better than her rating. We are hopeful that will translate to the track this season now she is more mature.

4yo Kayf Tara gelding who is a homebred born at Plantation Farm. He is from the last crop of Kayf Tara and a very big scopey individual. He was pre-trained at the yard last season, an honest type who really enjoys his work and could take in a bumper this season.

4yo Telescope filly out of a stable point-to-point winner Bastante. This homebred comes from a good French family and is showing a good attitude in her work at home. Hopefully she can take in a bumper or two this season.

7yo Masked Marvel gelding who showed some good form in his first season for the yard. He went very close to winning at Doncaster in December before winning impressively when stepping up in trip at Newbury in March. Still unexposed up in trip as a chaser, we hope he can progress again and contest some nice staying races this season. He’s a classy type who’s only coming to full maturity now.

7yo Masterstroke gelding who had a cracking 22/23 season for the stable, but wasn’t able to quite show the same form last season. He showed a glimmer of his best when finishing 3rd at Huntingdon in March but wasn’t able to back that up. He looks well treated now on a mark of 107 and is likely to try a step up in distance this season, which could really suit.

9yo Mahler gelding who hasn’t been seen on the track since racing for Paul Henderson in October 2021. He’s been given plenty of time to get over that injury and was in full training at the back end of last season. He could be well treated on his best form and, if he can string some runs together, should be able to progress. He likes a trip and, also, is yet to jump a fence on the track, which is an option.

4yo Highland Reel filly out of Grade 2 winning mare Senorita Rumbalita. She progressed nicely through her training last season, going nicely in a racecourse gallop at Newbury in the spring. She wasn’t quite ready to run but has done well for her break and can take in a bumper before going hurdling.

Stable star who hasn’t been seen since slipping his tendon off his hock in the Albert Bartlett in 2023. A horse who helped put the stable on the map, he’s been given loads of time and is training nicely. Granted some luck we should see him back on the track this season. He’s likely to start over a hurdle but if he can put some runs together we may see him back over a fence too.

6yo Kamsin gelding who took some time to acclimatise on his first season in the UK but progressed with every run, finishing the season with a good 4th at Fontwell in May. He didn’t quite stay the stiff 3m 2f that day, but I do think 3m will suit him this season. He looks nicely handicapped off 98 and there’s plenty more to come from him.

This veteran has become a stable favourite since joining the team in the 21/22 season. He had been so consistent for us but hadn’t been able to get his head in front, despite giving his all on every start. That all changed with 2 wins from 4 starts, firstly winning at Haydock before following up at Hereford. Now a veteran, that’s a route we are likely to continue down.

5yo Spanish Moon gelding who hasn’t stopped growing since joining the team in the summer of 2023. A huge, rangy horse with a good attitude, he did a nice gallop at Newbury in the spring but was another who wasn’t quite ready to run. He’s done really well over the summer and will start in bumpers this autumn. He’s a lovely long term prospect.

8yo Ocovango gelding who’s been another star for the yard. He took to fences really well last season and ran some massive races but wasn’t able to get his head in front. He ran a huge race behind Ginny’s Destiny at Cheltenham on trials day and subsequently went off favourite for the Plate at the Cheltenham festival, but sadly an early fall meant we didn’t get to see how he could have got on. We wanted to keep him a novice chaser for this season, so he went back over hurdles at Aintree but a mid- race mistake cost him any chance. He will switch back to fences now and should rank highly amongst the novice handicap chasers.

6yo Yeats mare from a quality staying family. She had a great first season for the yard, culminating in a win at Stratford in April. She really should improve for a trip in time but is currently racing too enthusiastically to maximise her stamina. She will relax with more experience and there’s more to come when she does.
